Very useful Base to mount Hayward pumps with Hayward filters

I used this base to mount a Power-Flo Matrix pump with an XStream Cartridge filter. The base is the only way to get the correct vertical alignment with the filter using the horizontal discharge feature of the Matrix pump. You use a HAYWARD | SELF ALIGNING UNION, BLACK | SP1480BLK to connect them directly (available on this website) for a very efficient 1.5" straight 3" flow in a compact space without running hoses in all directions. The setup is clearly shown in the Xstream manual pictures and parts list, but the base and union connector must be purchased separately - no fittings are provided with the filter.

The base provides good stability and locks in the XStream filter so that you can loosen and tighten the locking ring (which is notoriously sticky) for cartridge cleaning or replacement. I went one step further and bolted the base down to my platform using other reinforced holes provided and applied silicone sealer on the bottom of the filter so everything is solid.

Hayward includes two large self-tapping stainless steel screws and washers to secure your pump (you remove from its standard base), but the silly thing is that these are Philips head screws which can only be turned with a small bit wrench - the motor casing leaves little clearance and prevents access from above. Hayward: Please change to hex head bolts!
